National in a minority of one

The National Party’s bewildered press statement opposing the announcement of a new university in South Auckland puts it in a minority of one, Tertiary Education Minister Pete Hodgson said today.
"Support for the move has been received from the University of Auckland, as well as Manukau City Council and the new campus will be welcomed by the people of Manukau," he said.
"In addition National's analysis appears to overlook the proud contribution the Manukau Institute of Technology has been making for 40 years.
"If Dr Paul Hutchison cannot see that having an university in a city that has 10% of the nation's population and 12% of our 15-24 year olds, and is the fastest growing city in the country then questions need to be raised about whether he should retain his portfolio," Pete Hodgson said.
